Our Facility
Stephanie’s Academy of Dance is located at 2230 Cornell Avenue in Montgomery Illinois. Our spacious facility, which consists of over 6000 square feet, is the home of three dance studios, two lobbies, a separate break room for studying and eating, a private office, two dance dressing rooms, and four bathrooms. Our studios have professionally raised and installed floors, mirrored walls, adjustable ballet barres, and state-of-the-art sound systems.
One of the most important things a parent should look for in the studio’s flooring. Dance is a very physical activity that requires a lot of jumping and leaping which can put stress on bones and joints. Most dance footwear does not provide any cushioning or support, so the shock of the dance movement can place a lot of pressure on the knees, hips, and back of a dancer. The best way to prevent potential injury is by choosing a studio with a professional “floating floor.” A floating or raised floor is a dance floor that rests on a system of high-density foam to absorb the shock of jumping.
How do you know if it’s a “floating floor?” When a studio uses a floating floor system you can see that the floor is higher as it is raised off the regular subfloor and you would need to step up into the studio. Also, the floating floor is not flush with the walls in the room. Space is left between all walls so the floor is “floating” and allows the floor to move and adjust as it absorbs the shock of the dancing students.
Very few studios use professional floating floors because of the expense involved and usually opt for using the existing subfloor or laying Marley floor over concrete.
All three of our studios have floating floors that have over 800 high-density foam blocks under the floor surface. Our special floors help reduce the risk of injuries and allow students to dance longer without injury.
